When times are tough, Australians have always relied on the distinctive qualities of mateship, humour, ingenuity, courage and endurance to get us through. Known as the ANZAC Spirit, these five qualities have defined Australians ever since the first troops landed on the beaches of Gallipoli in World War I.
In the current climate, we’re reminding Australians that we all bear these qualities within us, ready to come to the fore when we need them.
This year on ANZAC Day, please join us in standing at the end of your driveway, on your balcony or porch, or in your living room to remember all those who have served and sacrificed for this nation.
From 6am, RSL Queensland will be streaming a short commemorative service, comprising The Ode, The Last Post, a minute’s silence, and Reveille.
Don’t forget to share your photos and videos with the hashtags #ANZACspirit #lightupthedawn and pledge to participate at https://rslqld.org/Whats-On/ANZAC-Day
Every year at Christmas time we put up decorations. In the lead up to ANZAC Day, every year, let’s start a tradition of putting up decorations around our homes and yards in memory of our ANZACs. Don’t forget to share your photos and videos with the hashtags #ANZACspirit #lighupthedawn or send them through to us rebecca.milliner@crslsb.org.au
The best dressed home in the Cairns region will receive a limited edition Western Front Teddy Bear.
The most creative photos will also be featured on the cover of our quarterly members magazine, Sit-Rep.
Pictured below are some ideas on how you can get decorating.
