The Cairns RSL Sub Branch has identified that the Cairns District has a number of Ex-Service Veterans from the United Kingdom, now living in the Far Northern District. From discussions that we have had, there are many who though are integrated into the Australian community, would welcome the opportunity to regularly catch up with their compatriots, irrespective of their service type or enlistment location.
The Cairns RSL Sub Branch is keen to support all Ex-Service UK Veterans, as part of its commitment to Caring For Our Defence Family, however before we can proceed it would be great to get a better understanding of the need for such a group before we invest the resources into developing it further.
Q. What if I am not an RSL Sub Branch Member, can I still be part of this Group?
A. Yes. Even if you have never been involved with the RSL or its Sub Branches we would still welcome you to be involved in this group, for we are here for all of Our Defence Family.
Q. What would the Group do and how would it operate?
A. The Group would be self directed and therefore undertake whatever the members identify as a priority. Though it’s main overarching objective would be to encourage the connection of Ex-Service UK Veterans with each other for personal and community support. It is envisaged that there would be a range of social and recreational activities and events, supported by the Sub Branch that the Group would organise for its members.
Q. Would the Group be part of the Cairns RSL Sub Branch?
A. Yes, the Cairns RSL Sub Branch would be the ongoing convenor of the Group that would provide the overarching organisational structure, some funding for the Groups operations, Insurance coverage etc. The Group would be another program of the Sub Branch, such as the Kokoda Museum, the Day Club and the Kickstart (fitness program).
Q. How do I register my interest in being part of the Group?

and send through your name and contact details. Once we have at least 5 people registered we will send out a notice of the first meeting of the Group.
Q. When do I need to register my interest by?
A. We are keen to get the Group up and running as soon as possible in 2021 so if you are interested please contact us by January 5th 2021
