Volunteers are the heart of the Cairns RSL Sub-Branch and an integral part of all levels of our operations. Join our team of over 50 Volunteers in supporting our local Defence family and their families.
There are a number of ways to volunteer, whether it’s helping at a special event, providing a listening ear or helping out in the office. The Cairns RSL Sub-Branch could not function at such high standard without the vital assistance of our volunteers.
As a fundraising Officer your role is to plan and carry out fundraising strategies including local and national events and appeals. Your fundraising will ensure that you and other volunteers can continue to provide practical support for members of the Armed Forces community and their families. You will be supported by the Secretary and Administration Officer in this role.
We are looking for volunteers to provide friendly support and a listening ear to our Defence family and their families, such as a visit to someone in their home, hospital or care establishment for a cuppa and chat. Along with being good company, you’ll be looking out for any person/s who may need further support. Being a Wellbeing officer is a rewarding role which allows you to experience first hand the difference you make to a person’s life.
Provide Pro Bono Assistance
Being involved in pro bono work can be a great experience, connect you with the local community and you will see firsthand the difference you can make in someone’s life. We are currently seeking the following support:
Photographer/Videographer – we have an ongoing need for new images for our website, social media, Sit-Rep publication and promotional material. Photography would be undertaken at social and commemorative events and in special photo shoots for our magazine.
Editor – We recently launched our new look Sit-Rep magazine. It is now the first ever Far North Queensland Defence Community magazine. We are looking for an Editor, with a good sense of what makes an interesting angle to a story and to manage all parts of the publication. You will plan, coordinate, review and edit content. You will decide which ideas should be pursed and which should be dropped in order to meet quality and accuracy standards. The goal is to provide an exceptional, informative and engaging magazine for the FNQ Defence Community.
