Kick Start your Day

Starting your day right with a nutritious breakfast is one of the best ways to set yourself up for good health.

Why is Breakfast so important? While all meals are important, breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day, and for good reason.  As the name suggests, breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period.  It replenishes your supply of glucose to boost your energy levels and alertness, while also providing essential nutrients required for good health.

Studies show that eating a healthy breakfast can:

  • help you manage your weight;
  • help you meet your daily nutritional needs;
  • help with concentration, particularly in children;
  • and can boost your metabolism.

As well as a healthy breakfast, to start your day, 30 minutes of exercise a day can lead to enormous benefits, in terms of your mood, health, weight, and the ability to live an independent and fulfilling life.

Last Sunday, 8 August we held our Monthly ‘Kick Start your Day’ BBQ Breakfast on the Esplanade.  We started our morning with juice, fruit, and yoghurt followed by eggs and bacon cooked by our wonderful volunteer Hayden.  After we all had our healthy breakfast Simon our Fitness Advisor took a group on a vigorous walk along the Esplanade.

Did you know?  that just 30 minutes of walking every day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance.

Those that decided to not go for a walk, played 3 very competitive games of Finska, if you haven’t heard of Finska it’s a tossing game, the first team that gets to exactly 50 points is the winner.  We broke up into two teams a Ladies, and a Gents team, the Ladies won 2 games to 1 and continued their winning streak.  What a great 3 games it was with lots of laughs and competitive fun.

Our ‘Kick Start your Day’ BBQ Breakfasts are held on the 2nd Sunday of the month on the Esplanade at the ‘Pirate Ship’.  Simon has a Ladies versus Gents friendly cricket match ready for our next BBQ breakfast, lets see how you go with cricket Gents?
