Join a crew of young Australians and embark on a life-changing 11-day journey – learning not only how to sail a square-rigged tall ship, but how to lead, support others and work together as a team.
The Cairns RSL Sub Branch is pleased to announce the recommencement of its 11-day Youth Development STS Young Endeavour Scholarship, worth over $3,000.
There is one scholarship available that covers all meals and accommodation aboard the ship. The successful participant will also receive a Kit Bag containing; a Young Endeavour crew shirt, hat, sailing gloves, water bottle, and voyage handbook.
* Travel, travel insurance, and transfers to and from the ship are not included.
STS Young Endeavour Youth Scheme is an Internationally recognised program that is for 16- 23-year-olds, designed to push you out of your comfort zone and rapidly develop your communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Since 1988 STS Young Endeavour has delivered more than 600 youth development voyages, sailed over 400,000 nautical miles, and embarked more than 14,000 young Australians for an adventure at sea.
This really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Supported by specially trained Navy personnel you will sail for 11 days; you will find strengths and skills you didn’t know you had and work together in a small close team to take command of the ship with your crew mates.

- Confirm that you are able to attend the Voyage from 18 and 28 July.
- Confirm that you:
- Are in good general health

How to Enter:
2023 marks 50 years since the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. We are commemorating this by asking our entrants to honour and remember the service of over 60,000 Australian men and women who served in the Vietnam war, and their families. Tragically, 523 people lost their life and over 3,000 more were injured.
The theme of the competition is “Honour the dead, help the living” This is the sentiment of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia, though it is acknowledged the wording is slightly different.
Your task is to present to us how you intend to honour the dead through helping the living.
We want to know how you do that already OR how you intend to do this and what steps you have started to take.
Your entry can be submitted in several ways.
- Written essay.
- Record a VLOG
- Write a blog post.
- Reflective journal
- Make a video.
- Painting, drawing or mixed media collection.
The key is to get the message across, to demonstrate your passion, determination and that makes you stand out from the rest.
