DESCRIPTION:Tickets can be purchased online at our shop.  \nThis year\, for the first time we will be recognising women in our community who have made an outstanding contribution towards our Defence community by presenting three award categories; Current serving member\, Former serving member and member of the Cairns Community. Nominations are now open and will close on Monday 24th February. To register a nomination complete the nomination form and email it through to Rebecca Milliner at rebecca.milliner@crslsb.org.au. \nEach year\, Cairns RSL Sub Branch and Cairns & District Ex-Service Women’s Sub Branch host an event to celebrate women in our community and in particular within our Defence Community. We recognise those women who have served or are serving our country and the outstanding achievements they have made during their service. \nKeynote speaker Veteran\, Sergeant Kylie Michelle-Walters promises to be a shining example of a woman who has been actively involved and lead the way under some extraordinary circumstances. \nInternational Women’s Day is celebrated across the world on 8 March every year. The purpose of the day is to recognise women and their achievements regardless of nationality\, ethnicity or cultural\, political or economic background.

SUMMARY:Preview screening of the Armistice Centenary Mini Documentary
DESCRIPTION:On the 28th of June 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed. This was the most important of the peace treaties\, that brought about the end of the First World War. \n\n\n \n\n\nTo commemorative the 100th Anniversary of the Treaty of Versailles\, you are invited to join us for a preview screening of the Armistice Centenary Mini Documentary.\n\n\n \n\n\nThis is a short twenty-minute film produced by the Cairns RSL Sub Branch and was made possible thanks to funding received from the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs under the Armistice Centenary Grants Program. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe film focuses on four local soldiers from our region Private Caleb James Shang DCM & BAR. MM\, Private Henry Dalziel VC\, Private Ernest Austin Ainscow and Trooper Harry Doyle. \n\n\n \n\n\nDrinks and canapes will be provided from 6:00 – 6:30pm followed by a preview screening. \n\n\n \n\n\nTickets are $15 per person and can be purchased by phoning Niki on 4051 5254.\n\n\n \n\n\nPlease note: This is an exclusive event and seating is limited\, RSVP as soon as possible to reserve your seat.

DESCRIPTION:The Cairns RSL Sub Branch in partnership with the Cairns and District’s Ex-Service Women’s Sub Branch will be hosting our annual International Women’s Day breakfast to celebrate the wonderful contributions women have made to the community. \nThere is no doubt that key note speaker Natalee Johnston will move and inspire guest with tales of her career in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). \nNatalee joined the Royal Australian Navy in January 1994 and within four years had gone on to complete her Bachelor of Science majoring in Physics\, gained her pilots wings and become the RAN’s first female pilot. \nGuest will be given the opportunity for Q&A session and to meet Natalee.  The breakfast will also include a hot/cold buffet style breakfast and an extensive range of raffle prizes to win thanks to the following local businesses – Regan O’Neill Art\, Piccone’s Supa IGA\, Elysium Apartments\, Our Happy Life\, Louie’s Liquor Barn\, Cairns ZOOM and Wildlife Doom\, Kuranda Scenic Railway\, Reef Hotel Casino\, Cazaly’s Cairns\, Tjapukai and Brothers League Club. \nThis is sure to be a sold out event not to be missed!
