Dear Member,
All members have now been sent a notice calling a Special General Meeting (SGM) for the purpose of putting to a vote for the removal of your current Board of Directors and electing a new Sub Branch Board. Of the ten current Sub Branch Board members, nine are young veterans, two are current serving members.
A request for this SGM was received by the Secretary of the Sub Branch on the 24th of March 2021 and is set for the 13th of June 2021.
As per the Sub Branch constitution, the Secretary has convened the meeting and sent out the notice to all members.
As President I wish to clarify certain matters in order to provide correct information to members.
The media stated that a Sub Branch Director was the driving force behind the request for the SGM: this is incorrect. The instigator of the request is a Sub Branch member who is now a Director on the ‘Club’ Board of Management.
I hope that all Sub Branch members are aware that the Sub Branch is NOT associated in the operation of the RSL Club and they use the brand of the RSL in name only. The use of the name RSL is of historical circumstance. The Club is an independent ‘Company Ltd by Guarantee’, is registered with ASIC and managed by an independent Board of Management. The Sub Branch is a registered ‘Charity’ with the Australian Not For Profit Commission and the Queensland Office of Fair Trading.
Your Sub Branch Board meets its aim of ‘Caring For Our Defence Family’, by providing high quality advocacy assistance with DVA claims. We provide requiem services to families of deceased veterans, home, hospital & aged care visits, food and emergency accommodation for veterans experiencing a difficult time. We offer veteran family support through direct support and referral, school sponsorship and collaboration to promote veteran commemorations. We are involved in the planning and conducting the yearly veteran commemorative and celebratory events and provide support for the Kokoda Hall Military Museum. Sponsorship is provided each year to a veteran dependent to experience the Young Endeavour and we are providing the health and wellbeing ‘Kickstart’ program for veterans.
All this is achieved through the dedication and commitment of our 58 registered Volunteers and our 3 paid staff team.
Best regards,

Peter Hayton
