President Update

As you are probably aware after many years of negotiations with the Club in relation to a Loan, it has been reported in the media, posted on the Club’s Web Site and in an email that has been circulated that the RSL Sub Branch Board called in the Loan on 15th March 2021.  It has been reported by the Club Board in the press and via the circulated email that the Club will close on 14th April.

I have personally sent two emails to the Club Chair regarding the possible closure of the Club (bar/bistro/gaming area) and to date have not received official notification from them that this information is correct or otherwise.

The Sub Branch had been informed early this week through the Club’s solicitors that the Club is not going to cease trading and no resolution has been made to go into voluntary administration on 14th April 2021. Therefore the Sub Branch is unable to comment on the accuracy of the information being published by the Club.

Now, some of our members are receiving emails from a Club Director to sign a petition to convene a Special General Meeting to “have all the SB Board members stand down and a new election held”.  As a Sub Branch member and as per the RSL Sub Branch constitution he has the right to adopt this process however be assured your confidential email details were not sourced from the Sub Branch. The Sub Branch will be making its own enquiries as to how the contact details were obtained.

As your President, I am sure you will have high expectations that the Sub Branch Board maintain high professional and moral standards when it comes to acting in the best interests of the Sub Branch, and for our wider Defence Family.  Therefore, I do not intend to make public comments about these matters because as I have stated before, the Club (the Tenant of the RSL Building) is an independent company that is controlled by independent Directors and that they individually and collectively are responsible for the decisions that they make.

My sincere thank you for your ongoing support and trust and would like to assure our members that the Sub Branch is continuing our normal day -to-day business of supporting our veteran family.

I welcome members to please contact me directly should you have any concerns or require clarification.

Best regards,

Peter Hayton
