Who are we? And how we can help you!

People believe the money from the bars and pokies goes towards helping veterans, but that’s simply not correct. Although we share the same origins, the RSL Club has been separate since the introduction of poker machines necessitated stricter liquor and gaming legislation in the 1990s. In our case, the Club leases the property from the Sub Branch to operate its gaming venue, and we co-exist in the building to carry out our services in advocacy, wellbeing and commemorative activities.

We are here to support our Defence Family no matter their age, gender or service history. We offer an extensive range of free services for veterans and their families across their entire lives, including at times when they may experience hardship. Our services include:

  • Advocacy to help you navigate the DVA claims process and ensure you get the best possible outcome
  • Wellbeing – From coordinate social events for camaraderie to lending a helping hand here and there, our wellbeing services are extensive
  • Hospital, Home, Age Care visits and care packages
  • Poppy services at funerals
  • Reception services – advice on where to go and how to go about it
  • Kokoda Hall Military Museum
  • Volunteer support
  • Triage Counselling
  • Food parcels
  • Emergency short term accommodation
  • Organise and conduct Commemorative Services
  • Coordinate, fund and implement milestone military events
  • Recreational and fitness programs
  • Provide support HMAS Cairns and 51st Battalion Far North Queensland Regiment through collaboration on events
  • Fundraising
  • Provide the latest news and updates regarding veteran wellbeing through online platforms such as social media, emails and website

Supporting Veterans and their families is the heart of everything we do. We answer thousands of calls every year from veterans and their family members – all with the aim of caring for our Defence Family.

The next time you talk with a mate who might need support transitioning to civilian life, finding their feet a few years after leaving the service, or whose family needs additional assistance, send them our way.
